Careers In Music Production To Make Money

August 13, 2008

Starting a career in music production is something that has to be mastered and has to be taught. You cannot be naturally born knowing everything, knowledge and power in the world is taught to you and I am going to tell you many ways you can learn how to build a career in music production. Let’s start with the creative side of music production and where it all begins.

Music Production Software is where all the fun begins, Music Production Hardware is all part of it but generally speaking I am going to use the term Music Production Software. You will need this to create your music, and however you may start learning (through fruity loops, reason etc) but ultimately you will need to end up using industry standard music production software such as Pro Tools or Logic Pro. This will give you the freedom to move around different record studios. Check the link below for more information

The Music Production Equipment (Hardware) you use is just as important as the music software. Your production equipment could be your midi keyboard, microphone, digital keyboard (Triton, Yamaha etc), mixing desk, audio interface or many other different types of equipment. Learn to use them with the music production software because without the software it’s going to be hard to mix all the audio together to get a great mix. Invest in good quality equipment and the results you will great out of your music will be amazing – There are guides at the bottom of the page – follow the link.

Building up your knowledge for a career in Music Production is critical, so ensure you watch online Music Production Tutorials. They will give you everything you need to know production wise, you will be learning some of the same production methods as many established producers.
Anyone that may be more advanced than you get Music Production Tips from, it’s always good to learn and take on advice.

I wish your Career in Music Production to be amazing and you reach to the top.

What’s Better – Fruity Loops, Reason, Logic Pro Or Pro Tools

August 13, 2008

Music Production Software is the first thing a new producer is looking for, it allows the producer to create music. The question i hear the most is what Music Production Software is the best? Fruity Loops (FL Studio), Reason, Logic Pro or Protools.

Fruity Loops

Fruity Loops is a great piece of software used from beginner producers to advanced producers. It’s rate highly due to the VST’s you can add, Fruity Loops doesn’t just stay within itself.. You can add so many things to it to make it a powerful music production workshop. Most professionals frown at fruity loops but believe me a hit record is produced in fruity loops everyday. Below is a website where you can find tutorials on how to use fruity loops.

Reason

Reason is properly my favourite because every single sample included in the software is perfect. Reason is normally used by producers that already have an idea of how to make music and advanced producers. The sound quality you can get out of reason is top notch and ready for radio play, it is recommended however you have to stay within reason. You cannot add VST’s and Plugins, however you can add samples to NNXT and Redrum. Below is a website where you can find tutorials on how to use Reason.

Logic Pro

Logic Pro is properly the most used music production software by Apple. It is used in almost every single record studio, it is the music industry standard piece of software. Saying that it is not the easiest to learn and master but the results are amazing. Logic allows you to produce music, add vocals and use VST’s and plug ins all within one single session so you don’t have to use multiple pieces of software to create a full track. Below is a website where you can find tutorials on how to use Logic Pro.

Pro Tools

Pro Tools is like Logic Pro. Industry standard. Pro Tools is normally used by producers that use instruments and hardware that require live recording to get sounds into the song. Pro Tools allows you to also like Logic do everything within one program, supports almost everything you throw at it. It is the worlds best but it also comes at a price and if you can afford it check it out, however don’t buy it for the name and expect to make hits. Below is a website where you can find tutorials on how to use Pro Tools.

I hope this helps you when picking your music production software.

How To Be A Music Producer

August 13, 2008

Learning how to become a music producer this day in age is all about knowing the business, you can be talented as hell but if you do not know how the business works you are going to find it ever so hard.

Many people ask me ‘How Do I Become A Music Producer’, they ask me what music production software is the best, what do I recommend.

The advice I gave varied between what kind of producer/artist they wanted to become however the basics i recommend to everyone start like this:

1) Get a PC or Apple Mac.
2) Buy / Download Music Production Software (Fruity Loops, Reason, Logic Pro, Pro Tools.. theres loads. Research)
3) Practice making your favorite type of music.
4) Find a mentor or watch online tutorials
5) Create a Myspace and start building a little fan base.

These five things i would recommend to any newbie producer that wants to go quite far in the music industry, they are straight forward however I recommend to be careful at number 4.

Ensure the person you are learning from is as well telling you what to do but inspiring you as well, you don’t want a boring mentor as I’m sure they will drive you to properly stop producing music!

Becoming a music producer isn’t the hardest thing in the world, however it is a challenge . Music Production is not for everybody but if you are interested try it and follow my short step by step guide and you will go far. Good Luck!
